    Abstract

Nanotechnology is a promising tool for addressing the challenges of agricultural productivity, especially in the development of nanofertilizers to improve nutrient uptake efficiency. This study evaluated the effect of calcium carbonate nanoparticles (CaCO3NPs) obtained from agave on the germination and vigor of Raphanus sativus L. seeds. Suspensions were applied at concentrations of 100, 200, and 300 mg L-1, in addition to a control with distilled water. The results indicated that the nanoparticles promoted a significant increase in the longitudinal growth of the seedlings (radicular length, hypocotyl length, and total length) at concentrations of 200 and 300 mg L-1. The hypocotyl diameter was greater at 200 mg L-1 but decreased at the highest concentration (300 mg L-1). In terms of biomass, the nanoparticle treatments showed a significant decrease compared to the control. The Dickson Quality Index (DQI), which assesses the overall quality of the seedlings, was significantly lower at concentrations of 100 and 300 mg L-1, while at 200 mg L-1 it remained similar to the control. These results suggest that CaCO3NPs positively affect morphological growth, but their impact on biomass and quality varies with the applied concentration.
