Functions of the Editorial Committee

The Editorial Committee is the highest governing body of the Journal. It is composed of researchers from the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco, as well as from national and international institutions, who have experience in the areas addressed by the journal. Its distinctive feature lies in its collegiate leadership. The committee is comprised of the Editor-in-Chief, the Associate Editors, and the Editorial Coordinator. The appointment of the Editor and the Associate Editors shall be for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

Duties of the Editorial Committee:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with the editorial policy.
  • Update the editorial guidelines.
  • Establish measures to increase visibility and added value.
  • Propose the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and members of the Editorial Board.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of the journal and its international positioning.

Duties of the Editor-in-Chief:

  • Lead the editorial process of the journal.
  • Coordinate the work of the Associate Editors and the Editorial Board.
  • Present the annual editorial program of the journal.
  • Assign manuscripts submitted through the Open Journal System (OJS) to the Associate Editors.
  • Perform the copyediting/proofreading of the original manuscripts accepted by the Associate Editors.
  • Approve the final design of each article before releasing it.
  • Convene and preside over ordinary or extraordinary meetings of the Editorial Committee.
  • Serve as the liaison between university authorities and the Editorial Committee.
  • Establish agreements with university authorities to support the academic strengthening of the journal.

Duties of the Associate Editors:

  • Participate in the preparation of the annual operational program.
  • Approve and enforce the editorial policy of the journal.
  • Review the compliance with editorial guidelines.
  • Evaluate manuscripts, with the support of peer reviews.
  • Review the writing, spelling, syntax, grammar, and consistency of the peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Review the corrected version, verifying that the corresponding author has addressed the observations indicated by the reviewers.
  • Determine the number of revisions required for each manuscript under their responsibility.
  • Propose reviewers for the peer-review process of manuscripts.

Duties of the Editorial Manager:

  • Periodically review the OJS platform.
  • Register the reviewers proposed by the Editor or Associate Editors.
  • Support the Editor in the assignment of manuscripts to the Associate Editors.
  • Send accepted manuscripts to the style editor.
  • Send accepted manuscripts to the layout editor/original formatter.
  • Send galley proofs to authors.
  • In coordination with the Editor, prepare the journal's annual program.
  • Train the editorial team in the use of the OJS editorial management platform.
  • Guarantee access to the necessary information for the Editorial Committee to carry out its functions.
  • Monitor compliance with the editorial policy, guidelines, and requirements of the journal.
  • Assist the Editor in various tasks.

Duties of the Internal Editorial Committee:

  • Periodically review the OJS platform.
  • Participate in the peer-review process as evaluators/reviewers.
  • Propose specialist reviewers for the peer-review process.
  • Review citation style and galley proofs.
  • Propose improvements to editorial policies and guidelines.
  • Support the dissemination of content and the international positioning of the journal.

International Advisory Board

The International Editorial Board is composed of a maximum of 30 researchers, who shall be proposed by the Editorial Committee of the journal and shall serve a three-year term.

Duties of the International Advisory Board:

  • Support compliance with editorial guidelines and publication requirements.
  • Monitor the quality of the articles published.
  • Propose reviewers for the peer review of manuscripts in their field of knowledge.
  • Review/arbitrate received articles related to their research line.
  • Promote the journal in order to increase its visibility and acceptance, as well as to increase the heterogeneity of authors’ affiliation and the quality of the articles.
