            Abstract

The objective was to characterize the chemical composition, the fermentative quality and the digestibility ruminal in vitro of dry matter between silages of hybrid corn BM 709 and C. cajan. The substrates corn, corn + C. cajan, corn + C. cajan + inoculant, with fermentation times of 0, 15, 30 and 60 days, under a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement 3 x 4. An analysis of variance was applied to determine the effect of treatments on variables Vm, S, L, FR, FM, FL, FT, IPEGF and DIVMS. There were no significant differences for DM and OM. In contrast, the CP was higher (P<0.05), being higher in T2 and T3, compared to T1. The fermentation Vm fluctuated from 208.57 to 316.90 mL g-1. Differences were found in the fermentation rate, with T6 being the highest (0.037000), while the lag phase showed no significant variations. The highest rapidly fermentable fractions corresponded to T12, T3, T2, T9, T7 and T1, with values of 117.59, 120.83, 124.15, 124.96, 127.44 and 127.44 mg g-1, respectively. The fraction of medium fermentation did not differ significantly, while the slowly fermentable fraction was higher in T7, T3, T2, T1, T5, T11, T8, T4 and T12. The DIVMS differed (P ≤ 0.05) among treatments, with the highest percentages in T5, T6, T3, T9, T3 and T1. These results support the use of corn and pigeon pea silage as a nutritionally efficient and environmentally sustainable alternative for livestock production systems.
